I started my career in fashion not finance - so how did I end up teaching women about investing?
Well life threw me some curveballs as it tends to do..
My Dad died when I was 22 and left me some money - a lot of it because he didn’t make it to retirement.
It made it very obvious what the important things in life were and also meant I needed to learn more about what the f people did with money.
I'd grown up with a single Mum and the extent of my financial education was 'spend as little as possible'.
The world of investing and learning how to grow my money was not something I'd ever had any exposure to or conversations around.
I was figuring it all out alongside my career and once I was confident I started sharing what I'd learnt with my friends.
Turns out they didn't know a lot about investing either.
Their portfolios then started to grow too.
That made me realise how unfair it was that if you didn't happen to have someone in your circle that knew about this stuff you would never get to benefit from it.
Fast forward a few years I got my financial advisor qualification and tentatively starting talking about money on the internet.
I decided to go down the financial education route as opposed to advice as I found that many women wanted to feel knowledgeable and in control of their finances and not just hand it off to someone else to manage.
Since then I've worked with some amazing women on their finances, hosted corporate workshops, landed amazing speaking opportunities and met a great community of women who have also veered off the typical career track.
The point of money is if you use it well it should give you greater security and more options to do the things that really matter.
My stock market investments have grown by +91% since I opened my first investment account just over six years ago.
